MENDING MINDS
MATTERS.

This is our first aid key pillars. Response. Conversation. Tools. Dialogue
"But too few of us would know how to respond if we saw someone having a panic attack.."

Most of us would know how to help if we saw someone having a heart attack—we’d start CPR, or at the very least, call an ambulance. But too few of us would know howto respond if we saw someone having a panic attack or if we were concerned that a friend or co-worker might be showing signs of depression, alcoholism or drug abuse.

"Mental Health First Aid takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations"

Mental Health First Aid takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use problems by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental illness or substance use disorder.

"Kenya Mental Health First Aiders can even save lives."

When more people are equipped with the tools, they need to start a dialogue, more people can get to the help they may need. Kenya Mental Health First Aiders can even save lives.

"Our training gives people the skills they need to reach out and provide initial help."

Our training gives people the skills they need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

Have a look at what our past trainees had to say

John, Child Services Officer
Kenya Mental Health First Aid training has taught the officer to ask his charges,“What happened?” instead of, “What’s wrong with you?”
Isaiah - Police Veteran
I absolutely believe Mental Health First Aid should be required for our boots-on-the ground community leaders, like teachers and law enforcement officials, to be able to recognize mental illness and substance abuse.
Alice, Primary School Teacher
Too many of our young people are taking their own lives. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people between the ages of 10 and 24. It can be scary for an adult who suspects a child is thinking of hurting themselves.Where do you start the conversation?
Alice, Teacher
Teachers today are called upon to do much more than just teach theirarea of expertise, whether its math or English, art or football. Teachers oftenplay a critical role in the lives of children beyond the classroom.
Michael , Community Service Director
“When you are providing services to people in crisis, taking your time, developing a rapport and developing trust is critical. Kenya Mental Health First Aid helped all of us develop those skills”
Lucas Mwangi, Student Kenyatta University
I would encourage anyone to take a Kenya Mental Health First Aid course. You never know when you’re going to have a situation when you’ll need to use the techniques. And you never know when your actions can make a difference in someone’s life.
